Community and Economic DevelopmentCommunity and economic development are essential to the prosperity of any community; large or small. While the two are very closely related they mean two separate things. Often when people think of economic development they think of bringing a big industry into Town that will provide many jobs to its residents. While that is extremely important, what is equally important is ensuring that the condition of the community is conducive to having an industry consider it for business. This is achieved through a variety of methods; ensuring good services such as schools, medical facilities, recreational opportunities, solid infrastructure, clean water, safe roads and a warm, friendly community attitude can never hurt. Community and economic development is administered for the Town of Springhill through a joint or shared position with the Municipalities of Parrsboro and Oxford under the auspices of the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association. In the beginning of every year each council outlines strategic priority areas of focus for the year to come and sets realistic, manageable goals to evaluate each areas success.
